Notification No 15 ( 3/99)

 

 

1.         The National League for Democracy is a legally constituted and registered political organisation and its selected candidates contested the multiparty general elections in May 1990 together with other legal political parties. The legitimacy of those candidates has been acknowledged by the different branches of the Elections Commission in that they were qualified and allowed to contest the elections.

 

2.         U Maung Maung Win (a) U Win Maung was one of those candidates who was permitted to contest the seat in Myin-gyan Township, Constituency No.2, Mandalay Division. The number of votes that were given to him by the electorate out of their own free will totaled 39088(68.08%) and this was published and recognised by the authorities.

 

3. (a) Despite this, the authorities have coerced, intimidated, and compelled the people to proclaim loss of support and non-confidence in U Maung Maung Win on 3 March 1999. There is no provision in the Political Parties Registration Law or in the Pyithu Hluttaw (People's Parliament) Elections Law that authorises such activity.

 

    (b) The individuals named hereunder conspired and participated in the said unlawful activity and are thus guilty of infringing the law
