Committee representing the People's Parliament elected by the 1990 Multiparty General Elections

Notification  No. 6 (1998)

1. Resolutions of the Committee were stated in paragraph 9 of our Notification 1 dated 17 September 1998. The following resolution is contained in sub paragraph (b) (f) " Dr U Saw Mra Aung, Chairman of the Arakan League for Democracy, Member of Parliament for Arakan State, Myauk-U Township (Electoral constituency No. 1) is elected President of the Parliament".(end)

2. Dr U Saw Mra Aung's qualifications and services for the country are:-

(a) Obtained his MBBS (Bombay) degree in 1947 and joined the public service . Studied further in Britain and obtained graduate diploma DCH and FRCP. Returned and continued public service.

(b) Because of his fame and mature age, is highly respected by all.

(c) Participated in charitable and social welfare services.

(d) As the chairman of the Arakan League for Democracy he stood as a candidate for Myauk-U township,

Arakan State, and was elected member of the Parliament.

3. The position was gladly accepted by the above distinguished person.

4. The resolution taken and contained in paragraph 7 of Notification 1 pertaining to U Aye Tha Aung

representing the Shan National League for Democracy, Arakan League for Democracy, Mon National Democratic Front and Zome National Congress is herein reiterated.
