Bangladesh and Burma agree to step up patrol

Cox’sbazar, August 3: Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Burma border security force (Nasaka) have reached a consensus on strengthening patrol and checking cross-border criminal activities including thefts and robberies.

The agreement was reached at a sector commander-level flag meeting of the two border security forces in the Maung Daw, Burma, on 29 July, reports BSS.

BDR officials expressed concern at the meeting over the incidents of theft, dacoit and other criminal activities in Bangladesh border areas by some identified miscreants, who have taken shelter along Burma border recently.

The two-hour meeting also discussed other problems including steps to check smuggling and intrusion, and return of Bangladeshi fishermen now detained in Burma jail.

BDR Chittagong Sector Commander Col. Sheikh Ehtesamul Huq led the 12-member Bangladesh delegation at the meeting while Sector Commander of Nasaka Min Hla headed the Burma side. #
