More Burmese Families arrive at western Burma for rehabilitation
Buthidaung, 17th January 03: A number of Burmese families have
arrived at Buthidaung, a township close to the south-eastern part of Bangladesh, on the 11th January, according
to our correspondent.
The
thirty-seven families have been brought from Rangoon to be rehabilitated in the western
Burmese state under the arrangements made by the ruling Burmese junta, SPDC
(State Peace and Development Council).
According to sources in the Nasaka security
forces these families are part of the ninth batch of Burman nationals
‘rehabilitated’ in Rakhine State.
The local
Burmese junta officials have arranged for the distribution of twenty acres of
paddy land (at Border Development and Security or Natala Village at Aungthabray
under Maungdaw Township) left by the Muslims who fled to
‘the neighbouring country.’ Here
obviously the neighbouring country is Bangladesh.
Among
them, twenty-seven families have been rehabilitated in Thazin-myaing
and Padauk-myaing ‘model’ villages under Rathedaung Township.
At present rice and food forcefully collected from the
nearby villages have been distributed among the new arrivals by local Nasaka security forces and junta officials. Besides that the junta officials have
confiscated a large number of cattle from the local farmers to be distributed
among the newcomers.
A total of
thirty-seven people of the remaining ten families have been rehabilitated at
Aung-thabray village under Maungdaw Township.
In the
batch a total of one hundred and nine people have been brought from Rangoon, it was learnt. #
