A Suspected Informer of SPDC Held In
Southern Bangladesh

Ukhiya, July 29:
Bangladesh police arrested a young man from a bordering village of Bangladesh suspecting of SPDC’s spy on July 26, 2004, according to our correspondent.

Abul Khair, (35) son of Ahmed, hails from Gundhum, a bordering village; under Naikhongchari Police Station of Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh, he further added.

On July 26, 2004, a team of police led by Officer-in- Charge (OC) Sheik Abdul Mannan of Ukhiya police station raided Abul Khair’s house and arrested on allegation of leaking secrete information and newspapers of Bangladesh to Burma. Later on, he was sent to Cox’s Bazar jail,  a shopkeeper of Gundhum village.

Police suspected that Abul Kahir is involved in spying network for Burma for a longtime, while he receives a huge amount of money from Burma authorities. He is also involved in small business with Burma to hide original spying networks, he further said.

According to local people, he has no ability to involve such kinds of activities but some influential people, who were originally Burmese, now living in Bangladesh with a high respect are backing him. They left Burma for Bangladesh more than two decades back and never returned there. But now, they have access to go to Burma without taking permission from any authorities of Burma and Bangladesh. Even they can take parts in various occasions in Burma.

Local people also alleged that there are some Bangladeshi officials like N. Palit, a former Assistant Super of Police (ASP) of Ukhiya Police Station under Cox’s Bazar district, who was suspended by the government and was put in prison in Chittagong with a charge of anti-State activities.

Though the arrestee, Abul Kahir is proved on his involvement in spying networks, some bordering intelligent officials sided with him against the local people, said an elite villager of Gundhum with anonymity. # #
