Elephant killed a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh Camp

Cox’s Bazar, June 30
:
Wild elephant killed a Rohingya refugee at Kutupalong camp under Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh today, according to our correspondent.

At about 4:30 am, a man named Jalal, (50), was walking at playground of the camp near the forest as a regular exercise. After taking sometimes, he went to nearby jungle to defecate while an elephant came unexpectedly and killed him on the spot, he further added.

Regarding this, some refugees informed to the concerned authorities and police for an abnormal death of a refugee. Half an hour later, police and concerned authorities went to the spot and ordered the refugees to bury the dead body without delay, said a refugee from the camp.

He left his wife, six children and some relatives to mourn his death. Now, his family became hapless and helpless for an unexpected death of family head. So, they are very disappointed for their future, he more added.

Wife of the dead man said, “I have some children among them, the eldest one is only 17 years old who is studying in camp school. If we return home, who will cooperate us to educate my children and to take care of them? Now, we are in need of cooperation from all Rohingya community and others for the education of my children.”

According to another refugee, there was no wild animal near the camp area. It is quite unexpected for us.

Such kind of incident was happened in last February 28, 2004 and killed a minor refugee boy.  # #
