A Nasaka Agent Stabbed in Northern Arakan

Maungdaw, June 7:
A Nasaka (Burmese Border Security Force) agent was stabbed severely by village youths in northern Arakan on 4th June 2004, according to our correspondent.

He was immediately sent to Maungdaw hospital for medical treatment where doctors said that the condition of the wounded person was very serious, source further added.

The agent, named Ataullah, (37), son of Mohammad Nasim, from Dudan village tract of Maungdaw Township, is being engaged as a agent of Nasaka authorities since long. His main duty is to inform any activities of Rohingyas to the Nasaka and also create some problems among the Rohingyas to extract money with the cooperation of Nasaka forces, said a villager who declined to mention his name.

According to the agent’s misinformation to Nasaka authorities, a religious leader Moulvi Sayed Ahamed was killed by Nasaka on 21st April 2004 in the same village while to extract confessions about one Moulvi Abdullah’s involvement of anti-activities of government by touring in Nasaka camp. The Nasaka also cut off his private organs and tounge. This made villagers very livid, as the dead person was innocent, he further added.

Sensing the situation of the villagers, the agent Ataullah, on 2nd June 2004, invited some Nasakas from Ngakura camp to hold a combing operation in the village to arrest some village youths who are against him for the cause of killing of Moulvi Mohamed Sayed. This also coerces the villagers, especially the youths to become very fuming, said a Moulvi to our source.

So, some youths from the village decided to kill the agent anyway in front of the large number of people to give a lesson for over all of the area. Hence, some youths stabbed him with knives and injured him severely on 4th June on Friday, in front of the village mosque where many people gathered after Juma prayer (weekend prayer), Moulvi further added.

According to our sources, most of the people are feeling happy on this matter but they are afraid of Nasaka’s repercussion on the villagers, as the killers have gone into hiding either inside Burma or in Bangladesh.

Though the villagers are wary of Nasaka’s reaction, no action has been taken against the villagers till writing of this report.

SPDC is playing their “divide and rule policy” among the Rohingya community and between Rakhaing and Rohingya communities, especially Rohingya to force to leave from their homeland, said a Village Peace and Development Council member.

SPDC is also trying to their best to create disunity among the Rohingya and to become more and more weak under the fear of pressures from ruling military junta, he further added. ##
