Rohingya Youths & Women jointly completed a Media Training and Basic Photojournalism Workshop
Chittagong, June03: Kaladan Press Network (KPN) based in Bangladesh conducted 5-day long basic media training and photojournalism workshop with the participants of Rohingya youths and women, was jointly completed yesterday.
This is the first time; with six members including two Rohingya women participants attended the basic media training and photojournalism camp conducted by Kaladan Press Network
The basic media and photojournalism training camp was held in Burma-Bangladesh border area from 29th May to June 02, 2004.
The workshop aimed to the quality development of the participants from the angle of news writing and to become good photographers for the point of photojournalists.
One of the youths attending the media training said, “ The media training camp is the first of its kind conducted by Kaladan Press Network in this part to the Burmese Rohingya ethnic group. It is a great opportunity for us as we have been illogically forced to leave our country for a difficult life in foreign countries.”
Another woman participant named Sanda Win said, “ People living in the Arakan State don’t know what is the role of media and its importance. We have been subjected to by the present Burmese ruling military regime with various means. We hope the media can promote awareness to the Burmese people about democracy and will play an important role to oust the present military regime and to establish democracy in the country.”
This media training camp opens up new vistas, which much tend to change our approach on lives, as we have learned many unknown facts about media’s role, said another participant.
Media are the instruments of mass communication hands in the world. Rohingya have no more chance to use media as very effective tools and don’t have the ways either to create mass awareness for media or for the political and social sector in their home in Burma.
Though the Rohingya people are long been subjected under the Burmese military ruler, they have adjusted with international media and world press with the sympathetic contribution of Western media. In other side, the present ruling military Junta controlled all the medias in Burma as fearing of their cruelties would be come into sight. So, we don’t know what are goings-on in Arakan State and other sides of Burma. Today, the Rohingya story is covered in a large space in some web pages through Kaladan Press Network. It is our chief goal. So, we give many thanks to Kaladan Press Network, said Ibrahim, another participant. ##
