Nasaka Raped a 12-Year Old Girl and Strangled

Maungdaw, May 12: On April 27, 2004, a Nasaka (Border Security Force) from Nasaka Headquarters of Kyi Kan Pyin (Kawa Bill) village of Maungdaw north, Arakan State, raped and killed a 12-year old girl by strangling her, according to our sources.

The victim’s name is Shajeeda, 12, daughter of Noor Kalam hailed from Kyi Kan Pyin village of Maungdaw Township, sources further added.

On the fateful day of 27^th April, the victim accompanied by another girl named Rohima (not real name), 10, of the same village went to a grazing ground with their 12 cattle to graze their herds, which is nearby hillside. At about 4:00 pm, a Nasaka with plain clothes from Nasaka Headquarters went to the grazing ground while the said two young girls were preparing to return home. The Nsaka grabbed the Sajeeda and took away her to a hillside solitary place while another girl was standing helplessly, said a relative of the victim.

However, Rohima was waiting Shjeeda’s return for a while but she didn’t appear. So, Rohima went home with all cattle and informed the incident to the victim’s father, the relative further added.

Hearing the news, the victim’s father, quickly went to the Nasaka headquarters to inform the incident of his daughter. But, he was expelled from the gate by the Nasaka guard. So, he went to the village Chairman and Secretary to inform the incident. They gave him assurance that the next day, they will go to the Nasaka headquarters to inform the incident, said the victim’s mother to our source.

The following day, on 28^th April, early morning, the village Chairman and Secretary accompanied by victim’s father went to the Nasaka headquarters to inquiry about the event. But, the Nasaka denied that they have no information about the happening and no Nasaka force has been linked with this matter. However, the victim’s father was not discouraged by the Nasaka’s misbehaviors. As a result, he went to the mountain where his daughter was taken by Nasaka and was searching there in whole day. But, he failed to meet his daughter and returned home.

On April 29, 2004, early morning, he went to the said mountain again accompanied by some villagers and searching thoroughly, but this time he also failed to find his daughter till 12:00 noon. After having tired, he took rest under big tree thinking about where and what happened to his daughter. Suddenly, he heard voices of flies from a distance and went there to see what was happening there. At this time, he found his daughter’s dead body was lying face dawn on the ground covered with some bushes, said victim’s father.

Taking the dead body of his daughter went to the village and informed the village Chairman and Secretary. Afterwards, he accompanied by them went to Nasaka Headquarters with dead body to inform the Nasaka. But, the concerned Nasaka authority ordered them to bury the dead body immediately. This time also the concerned Nasaka authority denied any involvement of their forces in the murder case and not ready to hear any allegation against the Nasaka forces. The Nasaka also threatened the victim’s father not to come again to vilify their soldiers.

When asked a village elder, he said, “ This is a great inhuman manner as a 12- year old girl is raped and strangled by the Nasaka force. It is moreover a very unbearable event. What is the condition of the victim’s parents? I cannot imagine it.”

The incident was reported to the concerned authorities including police and Military Intelligence (MI), but no action has been taken yet against the culprit. ##
