Nasaka (Border Security Force) taking Photos Of Rohingya Families

Maungdaw, January 01: Nasaka (Border Security Force) has been taking photographs of Rohingya families of Maungdaw and Buthidaung Townships in Northern Arakan since December 19, 2003, according to our correspondent.

Though they (Rohingyas) have family group photos, which were taking before, Nasaka forces have been taking again photographs of Rohingya families because of money. They take photographs thrice a year. Now, they are collecting Kyat 1,700 per family, he further added.

“Moreover, Immigration authorities also come to our villages to take family photographs at least twice a year. They also take money,” said a village old man.

Sometimes, the Nasaka and Immigration were taking photographs without films inside the cameras, pretending as real taking photos of Rohingya families, neglecting the Rohingyas as knowing nothing about their deceitful works. After taking photographs, they have never returned photos to the families. But, they (Rohingyas) have only received once, which was taking at first time by concerned authorities, said a villager angrily.

Rohingyas have to show their family photos, while the concerned authority ask them to show it. To reduce or increase a member from a family list, they have to pay Kyat 6,000 per one, said a trader. ##
