SOME NASAKA EMPLOYEES IN BANGLADESH

Teknaf, Oct. 22, 03: Recently, Nasaka (Border Security Force) are being employed as goldsmiths in different gold shops of Bangladesh, said Jabed Iqbal Choudhury from Teknaf.

Some gold shops were established along the border of Cox’s Bazar district with the collaboration of two syndicates, one U Myint Aung from Maungdaw (Burmese) and another one is Kyaw Hla Oo from Nhila (Bangladeshi), in which most of the employees are Burmese nationals (Rakhines) and of them some are Nasaka or Nasaka agents as goldsmiths, he further added.

These employees are involved in collecting of information for Burmese military and Nasaka but the local Bangladeshi people know them as Rakhine goldsmiths, said a local member.

In these shops, goldsmiths make various gold ornaments with artificial gold and rubies and sell them at the rate of original gold prices while the owners of the shops lend money to the local people with high interest, he further said.

Gold shops are increasingly established by Bangladeshi Rakhines with collaboration of said syndicates in Chowdhury Para of Teknaf Municipal, Nhila Chowdhury Para, Upper and Lowe Bazar of Teknaf, Whykong, Kharang Kahali and Sabrang Bazar of Teknaf Sub-district, which have no legal licenses, said Abdullah, a businessman from Nhila.

When asked there is no Nasaka in our shops but some employees are Burmese nationals, said an owner of gold shop from Teknaf.

Burmese nationals enter into Bangladesh with legal passports carrying cloths, drugs and many other illegal things. In return, they bring away US Dollars, gold, medicines and other necessary things. ##
