Maungdaw, July 23: On July 01, 2003, a Rohingya woman named Ms. Nasima Khatoon (nickname), 25, was raped for two days in Nasaka (Border Security Force) camp by a Nasaka officer, said a victim’s relative to our source.

The victim hails from Zee Bin Chaung (Zee Pin Khali) village of Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, and is mother of a 2-year-old child. Her husband has been working in Malaysia for two years to support his family, source further said.

On that day, a Captain of the headquarters of Nasaka area No. 4 at Laikra village of Maungdaw Township called the victim through messenger for the purpose of inquiry about her husband. On arrival the Captain charged that she had received Kyat-2,0 00,000/-(Kyat two millions) from her husband and demanded an amount of Kyat-700, 000/- from her, said a relative of victim to our source.

But she abruptly denied receiving any money from her husband for two months and rejected the captain’s demand whereupon the Captain held her for two days in the camp where she was reportedly raped. She was, however, released and returned home July3, 2003,source further added.

The following day, on July 3, 2003, the Village Peace and Development Council (VPDC) Chairman, accompanied by village elders and other VPDC members, went to the headquarters of Nasaka Area No. 4 and reported the matter to the Area Commander who later transferred the culprits to another camp as punishment, another villager said to our source.

But, this action has encouraged the Nasaka forces to perpetrate the heinous crimes while the fear has gripped the villagers, one village woman told our correspondent. ##
