AIA DECLARATION

According to our correspondent, we came to know that

an emergency meeting of the Arakan Independence

Alliance (AIA), an umbrella organization of the

National United Party of Arakan (NUPA) and Arakan

Rohingya National Organisation (ARNO), was held on

24-25 May 2003.

He further added that the meeting discussed about the

present political situation and other matters of

national importance. The issue of launching an active

peaceful political movement was one of the important

agenda items dominated in the discussions of the

meeting. Considering the need for reconciliation among

different peoples in Burma in order to bring the

autocratic rule of the illegitimate military regime to

an end, the AIA declares to continue its joint

movement until the inalienable right of the people of

Arakan to “self-determination” is achieved.

We have learnt that the AIA has just released a

declaration today, which has included the following

points:

(1)     The National United Party of Arakan (NUPA) and

Arakan Rohingya National Organisation (ARNO) are the

legitimate representative parties of the people of

Arakan.

(2)     The national struggle of the Alliance  (NUPA-ARNO)

against the military dictatorship in Burma is for

“self-determination” of the whole people of Arakan.

(3)     All the people of Arakan, whether in the homeland

or in the places of refuge, are an integral part of

Arakan Nation. The Alliance will strengthen unity

among them irrespective of race, creed, religion and

status.

(4)     The Alliance aspires to cooperate and work

together with all national revolutionary movements and

democratic forces fighting against the present ruling

State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) military

regime.

(5)     The Alliance seeks all-out support of the

neighboring countries, international community, the

United Nations Organisations (UNO), Organisation of

Islamic Conference (OIC), World Bodies, Regional

Organisations, NGOs, Human Rights and other

organizations.
