New Mon State Party (NMSP) General Secretary refused what Burmese government accuses on eight of their soldiers as criminals for scary people by guns in collecting tax money.

The NMSP Leader said that eight soldiers who have been accused as criminals and arrested by the SPDC authorities in Ye township, Mon State are Nai Ron Nai, Nai Tala Lawi, Nai Aung Yin and five others on June 29, on the day of 9th anniversary of NMSP cease-fire with regime.

“These people who have been accused can be sentenced for eight years term imprisonment as Burmese Army accused them as criminals” he added.

Nai Hong Sar, NMSP General Secretary said “we are not forcing our people to pay money as yearly tax. Our people know their responsibilities to help us as much as they can, for our nations or movement”.

Nai Mon Chan (not real name) who said in anonymous situation because of fear said “from my experience, I have never seen NMSP soldiers are scaring the people with gun to get money. Of course sometimes some Mon soldiers made verbal abuses to the villagers when collecting money but not with guns”.

He also added “for our people, if we have money, NMSP even don’t need to force us. We give them without hesitate and support them but for some people who don’t have money they can’t give. So, it seems they are not supporting to NMSP.”

Nai Hong Sar said that it is our jobs to ask for help from our people to work for our nations. It is just between us and our people. If Burmese military stop us, it means that they destroy our revolution. “For our members, collecting money and asking for help from the people is normal.   It is not a crime”.

Nai Hong Sar added, “we have already informed military government before our members going to collect money from the villagers. We have been asking for supporting money since we have cease-fire with government in 1995 to until now. But, this year, although we have informed them, our officials were still arrested. May be they just wanted to arrest because they don’t like what we stand with other cease-fire groups in the National Convention”.

“On this case, if they want to blame, just blame the leaders. They should not blame and create problems to our soldiers”, said Nai Hong Sar.

He also said that they have asked the regime’s Prime Minister, Lt. Gen. Kyin Nyunt, for the unconditional release of their soldiers. But currently the Prime Minister is not in the country. So, they still have to wait.  At the moment, some of their soldiers are also sick.

A NMSP member said “if our leaders can’t negotiate for releasing of our eight soldiers, the others soldiers will decrease the party activities in the future.

Nai Hong Sar said “we think we can negotiate with government to release our soldiers. But we can’t say when they will release”.
