A few compensation to confiscated lands was promised

SPDC local authorities promised they would compensate for the confiscated lands in Mon areas in a meeting hold in Ye Township, Mon State.

The battalion concerned under the command of Military Operational Management Command (MOMC) No. 19 called a meeting with landowners who lost their lands after the military deployment recently.

The battalion commanders said that they could compensate for the confiscated lands with amount of money that less many times than the current price of the lands.

The army plans to compensate only Kyat 250 for one rubber tree, which price is about 10000 Kyat, and so that the landowners are dissatisfied.

After a meeting in Morkanin village on October 30, a landowner said, “the compensation is too small, so it is meaningless”.

In 2002, the Burmese Army also paid a few amount of payment during they connected Kanbauk-Myaingkalay gas pipeline.

To get lands for both military deployment and properties of each battalion concerned, the Burmese Army confiscated thousands acres of lands in Mon area from 1988 to 2003.

Accordingly to the land report, “NO LAND TO FARM” produced by Human Rights Foundation of Monland, it records about 7780 acres of lands were confiscated in Mon areas, and the civilians lost about 1.5 million US Dollar worth of their properties and real estate.
