Looting by newly deployed Burmese Army in southern Mon State

While the Burmese Army recruits the local civilians to attend the military training, it also sent about 10 military battalions to the southern part of Mon State with heavy artillery and equipment, accordingly to the local villagers.

The reason of deploying new troops is not known, but the soldiers are widely looting the livestock in villages that belonged to the Mon villagers.

Troop deployment started since on July 1 and put their bases along the motor road between Thanbyuzayat and Ye Town in Mon State. Most troops are brought from outside of Mon State according the source.

In each village along the road, the Burmese Army deploys 50 to 200 soldiers and they separate in the villages. Then the soldiers involved in killing and looting of the villagers’ livestock such as pig, cattle, chicken and ducks, according to the villagers.

“The soldiers do not ask from the villagers, but they just shot and took the livestock what they like. When we complain to the high rank commander, but they do not take any punishment to their soldiers. We are unhappy and dissatisfy”, said by villagers.

On July 4 night, one low-rank commander of Burmese Army, Sergeant Hla Win from Light Infantry Battalion No. 355 (which is originally base in Kawkareik Township) attempted to rape a Mon woman, Mi San Aye (34 years old) in Wae-rat village in Thanbyuzayat Township.

The villagers in the area are also ordered by the soldiers to not sleep at their farms at night but are permitted to stay and travel between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Some farmers abandoned their farms because they have a very limited to work at their farms.

After crackdown the National League for Democracy (NLD) members and leaders in Sagaing Division, which is known as ‘Depaeyin massacre’, SPDC has planned to create anti-strike as they think there would be possible demonstration. The Burmese Army also equips 25 guns in each village and formed ‘anti-strike force’.

SPDC local authorities recently forced the Buddhist monks to sign for the promise that they will not involve in politics. They went to every monastery in Mon State and forced the senior monks to sign for promise.
