MUL Statement: No solution for peace in ceasefire

Although the ceasefire between the SPDC regime and New Mon State Party (NMSP) has prolonged for 8 years, there is no potential situation to have political negotiation among them, analyzed by Mon Unity League (MUL) Statement issued yesterday in Mon language.

It also analyzes that the SPDC has never responded to solve the political problems by means of politics, and is still imprisoning three Mon leaders from Mon National Democratic Front (MNDF) who won 5 seats in 1990 general elections in Burma. Additional SPDC also sent a group of ‘terrorists’ and attacked NLD leaders including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and killed some NLD members in their arranged violent attacks.

Although many ethnic nationalities’ armed groups dealt in ceasefire for many years, over 8 to 10 years, but the SPDC authorities and Burmese Army still involve in violating the rights of ethnic people. Ethnic women are raped, the civilians are forced to contribute unpaid labour and confiscate thousands acres of lands, mentioned in the Statement.

Although the ethnic political parties have demanded for the political talks, but the regime has ignored the demands.

The regime never served for the people but has ruled by means of violence and threat, said the Statement. The civilians migrate into the neighbouring countries, due to economic management and hardship in their livelihood activities.

The 8th anniversary of ceasefire was also held in Moulmein, the capital of Mon State, said by NMSP source.

Although the SPDC propagandized there is a peace ‘dawn’ in Mon State, but the regime and various battalions of Burmese Army had confiscated about 8000 acres of lands belonged to Mon civilians since Year 2000. The Mon people blamed to NMSP for their less protection to the civilians.

“Although the regime said they deployed more battalions in Mon State to protect the foreign invasion. But I don’ think. They just try to put more pressure on us”, said by a senior leader of NMSP.
