Even though there was no increase and decrease of students in Moulmein, a hundred of students increased in Chaung-zone Township. We are happy to see the increase of students in Chaung-zone this year after 3 years training.”

Chaung-zone Township is locating in an island, western of Moulmein.

Since 1989, Moulmein’s Mon Literature and Culture Committee has arranged the training for those who voluntarily learn the Mon language and this year the Committee 5 classes in Moulmein and 6 classes in Chaung-zone Township.

Although the Committee has every year asked the permission to the SPDC Mon State authorities to allow those classes, but the authorities never replied to them for official permission.

However the committee continued providing training to students but sometimes, the military intelligence came and threatened to close down the classes.
