Some Burmese activists were arrested by Thai authorities this afternoon
in
Thai police, immigration, task force and local authorities rounded up
the
residences
of Burmese activists in Sankhalaburi area and 8
people were placed
in
custody.
Those who arrested were Aung Kyaw Soe (Democratic Party for New Society)
and
his
wife Ma Htay Win, Aung San Nyunt (National League for Democracy – Liberated
area)
and his wife Ma Ni, Ann Kyu (Chairperson of Tavoy
Women Union),
Tin Tin Khine (General Secretary of Tavoy
Women
(Federal Trade Union of
Ann Kyu, Tin Tin
Khine, Zarny Thway and Tun
Sein were subsequently released.
Tin Tin Khine when contacted told:
“We were rounded up and everything was confiscated, including
kitchenware. ..subsequently
we
were taken to police station and questioned, fingerprinted and photographed.”
She also expressed her concern over those who are still in custody as:
“we are very
concerned
about the rest as the authorities are saying that they would be deported.”
