Swe explained the salient points of the seizure of
the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok. He said:
In answering to queries raised by U Sao Kai Hpa of
Mainichi Shimbun, U Khin Maung Myint of NHK TV and
Radio, U Aung Shwe Oo of Nippon TV, U Nyunt Tin of
Fuji TV and U Sein Win of Kyodo news agency
concerning the condition of security of Myanmar
Embassy in Bangkok undertaken by Thailand, the
security situation of Bangkok where weapons like
AK-47 could be conveyed at will by taxi to a place
near the Embassy, whether the hosts had the
responsibility or not in regard to the armed
seizure of the Embassy and whether there are
connections or not between the terrorists and the
foreigners who were applying for visas at the
Embassy, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and Col
Thein Swe said generally two Thai police of
Yannawa Police Station took charge of the security
of the Embassy; at present, more security
personnel are rein forced at the station if
requested; even Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai
himself was amazed at the matter concerning the
conveying of arms to a place near the I Embassy;
all the countries have to adh ere to Vienna
Convention on Diplomatic Relations regarding the
safety of the Embassy and its compound; the
Article 22 of the Convention states "The premises
of the mission shall be inviolable. The agents.
of the receiving State may not enter them, except
with the consent of the head of the mission. The

prevent any disturbances of the peace of the

the connection between the terrorists and
