(1)   Senior General Than Shwe  inspected the 
      development   of Mandalay Industrial Zones 



 YANGON, 22 Sept - Chairman of the State Peace and
 Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence
 Services  Senior  General  Than  Shwe  and  party
 visited Tooth Relic Pagoda  (Mandalay) at 8.30 am
 yesterday.  Then, the  Senior  General  and party
 went to No 1 Industrial Zone in Sanpya Industrial
 Myothit, Mandalay, and met with industrialists of
 Mandalay Industrial Zone there.  In his guidance,
 the Senior General said.  Afterwards,  the Senior
 General  and  party   inspected   power   tiller,
 finished wood products, engine pistons,  aluminum
 wares,  consumer  goods,  rattan  wares, parts of
 lathes,  electrical  appliances,  spare  parts of
 automobile,  stone  crusher,  machinery  for  oil
 mills,   machinery  for   production   of  tiles,
 textiles and various sorts of paper.



 Then, the Senior General and party  inspected the
 development of Mandalay Industrial Zones No 1 and
 2 by car.  Next, they proceeded to Mandalay Hill,
 and  visited   Hsutaungpyi   Pagoda.  The  Senior
 General  presented  donations  to  the  fund  for
 renovation  of  Mandalay  Hill.  Then, the Senior
 General and party  inspected  progress of work in
 renovating  Hsutaungpyi  Pagoda at Mandalay Hill,
 measures  taken  for  greening  of the  hill  and
 documentary  photos and viewed  the  panorama  of
 Mandalay Hill.  The Senior  General and party met
 with  senior  military  officers  of the  Central
 Command and members of  Mandalay  Division  Peace
 and Development Council and Division Agricultural
 Supervisory  Committee in the meeting hall of the
 Central  Command  at 1:00 pm .  In his  guidance,
 General  said.  The  Senior   General  and  party
 visited Maha Muni Buddha  Image at 9 pm, and paid
 homage  and  offered  Shwethingan  to the  Buddha
 Image.  The   Senior   General   signed   in  the
 visitors'  book and presented  donations  towards
 the pagoda fund.

Peace    and     Development     Council    Deputy
Commander-in-Chief     of     Defence     Services
Commander-in-Chief   (Army)   General   Maung  Aye
received  Military  Attache of Russian  Federation
Col Vladimir I Kontchakov  who has  completed  his
tour of duty and newly appointed  Military Attache
Col  Vasiliy I Savenkov  at Dagon  Yeiktha  of the
Ministry    of   Defence   at   9.30   am   today.

(3)   Secretary-1  inspects  construction  of new 
      Yangon Psychiatric Hospital in Dagon Myothit 


 YANGON, 22 Sept -  Chairman  of  National  Health
 Committee   Secretary-  l  the  State  Peace  and
 Development   Council   Lt-Gen  Khin  Nyunt,  and
 officials    this   evening    arrived   at   the
 construction  site  of  new  Yangon   Psychiatric
 Hospital  in  Dagon  Myothit   Township,   Yangon
 Division.    The     Secretary-1     then    gave
 instructions.    The    Secretary-1     inspected
 construction  work  at  the site.

(4)   Gold,  jewellery and K 10 million for Bagan 
      Pagoda No 820, birthday of Chairman Sayadaw


 YANGON,  22 Sept - A  ceremony  to hand over gold
 and  jewellery  donated  by  Singapore   Buddhist
 Shwephayakyaung Sayadaw Venerable Shi Fa Zhao for
 enshrinement  at the Bagan Pagoda No 820 and K 10
 million for the birthday of Chairman of the State
 Sangha Maha Nayaka  Committee  was held at Yadana
 Hlaing Kyaung of Tri-Pitaka Nikaya Sarthintaik on
 Pale Yadana Street in No 26 Ward in-Dagon Myothit
 (South)  Township this afternoon.  Secretary-l of
 the State Peace and  Development  Council  Lt-Gen
 Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony and accepted the
 donations.  Then,  Secretary-l  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
 presented robes to Sayadaws.  Singapore  Buddhist
 Shwephayakyaung  Sayadaw  Venerable  Shi Fa  Zhao
 supplicated  on  the  donation.  Later,   Sayadaw
 Venerable  Shi Fa Zhao  handed  over one  viss of
 sold and jewellery  for the  enshrinement  in the
 Bagan  Pagoda No 820 to  Secretary-l  Lt-Gen Khin
 Nyunt.  Secretary-l  Lt-Gen  Khin Nyunt and party
 shared  merits.  After the ceremony,  Secretary-l
 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected  construction  of ort
 nation  hall at  Tri-Pitaka  Nikaya  Sarthintaik.

(5)   Minister  inspects  construction  of Ponnya  
      Taung tunnel


 YANGON,   22   Sept   -    Minister    for   Rail
 Transportation U Pan Aung and officials inspected
 the       bridges       and       tracks       on
 Tawkyaungkyi-Pakokku-Kyaw  Railroad section on 19
 September.   The    minister    also    inspected
 Pakokku-Monywa  and   Pakokku-Mandalay   railroad
 across  the  Hsinbyushin   Bridge   beginning  19
 September.  He gave  instructions.  The  minister
 inspected   construction  site  of  Ponnya  Taung
 tunnel and gave  suggestions  to officials  on 20
 September.

(6)   Minister tours Aunglan, Paungde, Gyobingauk,
      Letpadan Townships


 YANGON, 22 Sept - Minister for Progress of Border
 Areas and National Races and Development  Affairs
 Col  Thein  Nyunt  inspected  the  water  pumping
 project  and water  supply  programme  in Aunglan
 Township   yesterday    morning.   The   minister
 inspected   Aung   Marlar   garden  and   nursery
 undertaken   by  Aunglan   Township   Development
 Affairs   Department  in  Aunglan.  Minister  Col
 Thein Nyunt a!so inspected water supply  projects
 and nurseries in Paungde, Gyobingauk and Letpadan
 Townships  in the  afternoon.  The  minister  met
 staff  of  Development   Affairs   Department  in
 Paungde,  Gyobingauk and Letpadan  Townships.  He
 gave instructions them.  The minister and party a
 rived     back    here     yesterday     evening.

(7)   29 members resign from Einme Township NLD


 YANGON, 22 Sept -  Twenty-nine  members  resigned
 from the National  League for  Democracy of Einme
 Township,    Ayeyawady    Division.   Twenty-nine
 members   of  Einme   Township   NLD,   Ayeyawady
 Division,  of their  own  volition,  resigned  by
 sending  letters of resignation to Einme Township
 Multiparty  Democracy General Election Commission
 Office and the party concerned on 19 July 1999 as
 they no longer  wished  to  participate  in party
 politics of NLD.
