Bulldozer used to
              block access to
              protest camp

              Chakrit Ridmontri

The contractor for the laying of the Thai-Burma gas pipeline
yesterday blocked a road to prevent conservation groups getting
              to their forest protest camp.

Narong Changkramol, of the Seubnakhasatien Foundation, said
members found a MTS Crane Co bulldozer moving earth across
the road. The work was taking place about seven kilometres
from the camp near Khao Ta Kua forest in Kanchanaburi's
              Thong Pha Phum district.

Mr Narong said when the driver spotted the group members he
accidentally drove it into a ditch and then fled in a pick-up truck.

"The constructor's action worsens the situation. Why does it
have to do this when we are trying to talk with the government
              peacefully?," he asked.

The protesters are trying to get the pipeline diverted to avoid lush
              forest in Kanchanaburi.
