Korean Acacias to Help Myanmar Turn Green
Acacia seeds, which contributed to reviving Korea's barren land, will be sent to Myanmar in mid-January it was reported Thursday. The Forestry Administration announced it is ready to provide Myanmar with 34 kilograms of Acacia seeds collected from the Pohang area. This event follows the establishment of bilateral forestry cooperation between Korea and Myanmar in July last year and after Korea promised to help make Myanmar lush again.
Myanmar is located in the tropical monsoon area and is 3.5 times larger than the Korean peninsula. Its forestry resources are abundant but the Bagan area in the middle of the country has turned barren due to excessive tree cutting. The trees have been use as firewood for many centuries to bake bricks to build Buddhist pagodas. |
