KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- The Yang
di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah has congratulated
the Chairman of Myanmar's State Peace and Development Council Senior
General Than Shwe on the occasion of his country's Independence Day
today.
"We are confident that the traditional and
cordial ties existing between Malaysia and Myanmar will continue to
be strengthened in the years to come," he said in the message
released by Wisma Putra here.

Mahathir Mohamad in his messsage to Than Shwe expressed confidence
that this auspicious occasion would inspire the people of Myanmar to
strive even harder towards building a dynamic and prosperous
country.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to
express my fervent hope that the close bilateral ties and
cooperation between our two countries will be further strengthened
in the years to come for the benefit of our two peoples and the
region as a whole," he said.

Syed Hamid Albar also sent a message to his counterpart, U Win Aung.
