All who love own race and are of one race should avoid copying social norms,
values and way of living of other country
Non-disintegration of the Union, Non-disintegration of national solidarity
and Perpetuation of sovereignty essential for Myanmar
YANGON, 7 June - The opening ceremony of the Special Refresher Course No 18
for Basic Education Teachers was held at Yadana Hall of the Central Institute
of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division,
yesterday afternoon, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.
Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt delivered an address on the occasion.
He said with the objective of making proper use of better results of
advancing science and technology for prosperity of the nation and its people, the
State Peace and Development Council has been striving for the emergence of an
education system that guarantees national interest in the long run after laying
down the plans.
In implementing the education plans, the government officials, responsible
personnel of the education sector, scholars, rectors, professors and senior
teachers discussed educational matters and passed the resolutions in the education
seminars held annually, he said.
He said education delegates the length and breath of the nation discussed the
tasks of the first five-year short-term plan of the 30-year national
education promotion long-term project at the sixth education seminars on basic
education and higher education sectors in last May and they laid down future tasks
for 2003-2004. He said education system being implemented by the government is
the student-centred one. In accord with the national objectives the government
is now systematically nurturing the students to become highly-qualified
citizens with national spirit who can build and defend the new nation in the future.
He said in order to face the challenges in the future and solve them the
government is nurturing the students in accord with the prospects of national
development and developments in the international community. Such endeavours not
only contribute toward their brighter future but also help to build the future
of the nation and its people on the path of national progress.
If we study the international situation, greater development momentum of
science and technology deepens development gaps of different countries of the
world. It is seen that difference in the wealth power and the defence power due to
science and technological gap causes great changes in the field of
international relations, he said.
At a time when great changes occur with added momentum, it is necessary for a
developing country like Myanmar to build national forces to shape the future
in conformity with historical traditions of the nation and its people and
cultural foundation, while safeguarding the interest of the nation and its people
without losing sight of the developments.
Now efforts are being made by the entire nation for prosperity of the nation
and its people and to be able to stand tall among the nations of the world as
a sovereign state. And the students who will lead the nation in the future are
to be nurtured with development of their spirit and qualifications to build
the country by themselves in all sectors including the education sector, he
added. Taking advantage of the wealth difference and technological superiority,
attempts to dominate among the sovereign nations and putting pressure on those
nations are being made widely. Under such circumstances, the power of high,
strong morale is an invaluable national strength for a developing country like
Myanmar, he stressed.
He said nationalist spirit is the prime strength in struggling to keep
ourselves free from the influence of some big wealthy nations with technological
superiority.
Continuing, he said, minions of the external powers who are afraid of the
impact of nationalist spirit, are launching propaganda that the nationalist
spirit is out of date and that only the way of life of some big western nations is
the proper and correct international standards.
However, the Union of Myanmar assumes that the national policy -
Non-disintegration of the Union; Non-disintegration of national solidarity and
Perpetuation of independence and sovereignty - is essential for all the developing
countries. It is the ethics to be firmly adhered to by all the citizens who are
patriotic and have love for the nation and the people, he said. He said Myanmar is
promoting cooperation with international community with a view to modernizing
and developing and serving the interests of the entire global people. Myanmar
has been observing the international fundamental principles and norms such as
those fundamental principles mentioned in the UN Charter which are accepted
by the world's nations, he added. However, cooperation with international
community, modernization and national development are to be carried out
harmoniously preserving national character and social values, he pointed out. In other
words, the process of globalization should be approached from the nationalist
point of view within the framework which is not contradictory to the national
policy, he said.
Myanmars' social values, norms, way of life and social ethics which have been
preserved and uphold in the course of the history countable by the thousands
of years, cannot be set aside easily. All who love own race and all those who
purely belong to the race should avoid copying the social norms, values and
the way of life of a so-called democracy nations.
Myanmar social values, Myanmar ethics and Myanmar lifestyle which have
emerged for years in Myanmar community are the most suitable for Myanmars as well as
the most valuable things to be observed. To ensure the emergence of the
social values which will persist in the long-run and will be in line with own State
and own people, it is required to build political, economic and social
foundations that are in conformity with Myanmar society. Only when these basis
improve will the social values and social norms which could guarantee the
long-lasting national interests emerge.
The Government has been building the political, economic and social
foundations after laying down national policies for the emergence of a peaceful,
modern, developed and democratic nation the national people are longing for. Only
when the political, economic and social foundations in conformity with the
national objectives improve will a peaceful, modern, developed and democratic
nation which could guarantee the national unity, perpetuation of the Union and
perpetuation of sovereignty emerge.
The 1988 unrest has shown a clear evidence that stability of the State and
prevalence of law and order play a key role in building sound political,
economic and social foundations.
To ensure the stability of the State and prevalence of law and order, the
entire national people who reside in the Union are required to abide by the law.
There are rules and laws and regulations to be observed everywhere. Everyone
needs to abide by the rules and regulations.
Each and everyone has the right to profess the faith of his choice under
basic human rights. But, it is to be noted that the basic human rights would not
protect those who violate an existing law.
The government is to protect the people who would like to live in peace and
guard against anything harmful to them.
The government has been making all-out efforts day in, day out for ensuring
stability of the State and national unity, for national and economic
development with higher living standard of the people. Thus, significant progress has
been made in social and economic sectors.
Dams and reservoirs, major hydel-power projects, river-crossing bridges, new
airports, splendid universities and colleges have been built with own
resources and wealth power. Those projects have been implemented with the sole aim of
serving the interests of the people. Now, the people have been enjoying the
fruitful results of those projects.
However, recently, the internal and external destructive elements have been
stepping up their attempts to commit destructive acts and atrocities such as
detonating mines, violation of laws and instigating the people to cause disorder
and commotion and to undermine peace and stability of the State. At the same
time, with the assistance of foreign nations, they are committing sabotage
acts such as driving a wedge among national races and manufacturing accusations
to tarnish the image of the State.
Actually, a study of today's international events will show that those
opposed to the State fabricated news and false reports with every intention of
tarnishing the image of the government. They are committing such acts to the liking
of the organizations which provide assistance to them. This being so, it is
obvious that there are many people who have run into troubles in the world
today as there occur incidents that are far from the truth.
The clarification at the press conference held on 31 May showed that untoward
events occurred since some people were misled into following the
misinterpretation of democracy. Such untoward events would not have occurred if they had
responded to the government's goodwill which was based on constructive
attitude.
They had faced with the untoward events due to the disorderly and unruly
acts. These events would serve as lessons.
The Union of Myanmar, with or without foreign assistance, will continue to
strive for the emergence of a peaceful, modern, developed and democratic nation
enlisting own national forces in accord with the national objectives, Myanmar
social values and social norms.
National solidarity and perpetuation of the Union is the prime national
requirement for the Union of Myanmar, home to over one hundred national races. So,
the entire national people are to defend and safeguard the nation foundations
risking their lives.
The teachers, on their part, realizing the prevailing situations of the
State, are to nurture their pupils systematically in accordance with the national
requirement that are in conformity with the existing situations of the State.
They are to serve the interests of the State and the people through the youths.
The efforts to uplift the national education of the national people including
teachers constitute building the foundations for strengthening socio-economic
life of the people and for enhancing science and technology. With this
concept, all the entire national people are urged to make concerted efforts for the
successful implementation of the national education promotion programmes. At a
time when efforts are being made for the nation and the people to stand tall
among the world's nations and for the perpetuation of the Union through the
strength of the national forces and the nationalist spirit, the students are to
be nurtured properly to become a patriotic force on which the State can rely.
In conclusion, he urged all to collectively make efforts for ensuring the
national education to be of international standard with a view to enabling the
nation to keep abreast with the world's nations.
The education sector is to take the leading role in organizing the entire
people including students to have dynamic nationalist spirit, patriotic spirit
and Union Spirit to enable the nation to stand tall among the world's nations,
he urged.
The Secretary-1 also urged all to wipe out the danger posed by destructive
elements who are attempting to undermine the stability and development of the
State and perpetuation of the Union.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 cordially greeted the trainees.
Altogether 1,000 trainees are attending the five-week course.
