The Veterinary Council amendment bill, the Foreign Investment amendment bill and the Myanmar Citizens Investment amendment bill were put on record as approved by the parliament. The Projects and Financial Development Joint Committee presented its findings on the report of the first six-month implementation of the National Plan in 2015-16 fiscal year. Six MPs discussed the report, with U Kyi Tha of the Gwa constituency calling for reconsideration of the efforts for the development of the industrial sector. U Sai Win Khaing of the Theinni (also Hseniw) constituency inquired about the planned compensation to the residents affected by the extension of the ASEAN Highway, known as AH 14 between Lashio and Theinni. Deputy Minister U Soe Tint responded that arrangements for compensation have been made in coordination with local administrative bodies. The AH14 is being expanded into a four-lane highway from 173/3 milepost in Lashio to 205/6 milepost in Thenni. U Thein Nyunt of the Thingangyun constituency asked about the rising rents in Thuwunna housing estate and the possibility of ownership change. Ownership of the house will pass from husband to wife and then to their offspring, the deputy minister responded, adding that the monthly rents range from K1,000 to K3,000 . He called the rents relatively low. ?Property ownership is not transferable,” he said, hinting at a further reduction in rental fees. Also, the Joint Bill Committee also discussed the Special Commodity Tax Bill, which was submitted by the Ministry of Finance last Wednesday. The bill committee agreed with the proposal of the ministry, saying indirect tax should be promoted in Myanmar as it is in other developing countries. Description: HLUTTAW SESSIONS:- Pyidaungsu Hluttaw: Finance Ministry proposes Union Tax Law Amendment: "THE Ministry of Finance put forward the Union Tax Bill for 2016 to Pyidaungsu Hluttaw yesterday. The Union Tax Bill for 2016, which is based on the Union Tax Law 2015 with new amendments and added content, includes eight chapters and 39 sections, according to Union Minister for Finance U Win Shein. The bill includes proposals such as adding a new tax system, abolishing a tax system, amending the commercial tax for specific goods and adding goods and services which would be free from tax. The ministry also added that tax for mobile phones top-up cards will be collected next fiscal year, netting a possible 80 million kyats revenue. The ministry expects to collect over 6.1 trillion kyats next fiscal year—a 269 million kyat increase from this year. The Bill Amending Criminal Law, the Bill Amending Insurance Permission Law and the Bill Amending Banking Law were approved.
