Description: The Union of Myanmar has a population of more than 48 million (1995 Census). According to the country?s basic principles, anyone can freely profess any religion he or she likes. Currently, the population consists of Buddhists 89.28 %, Christians 5.06 %, Islamists 3.78 %, Hindus 0.51 %, Animists 0.21 % and others 0.16 %. As to Theravada Buddhism, the Union of Myanmar officially recognizes nine ganas (sects). They are: Sudhamma gana; Shwekyin gana; Dhammanu-dhamma mahadvaranikaya gana, Dhammavinayanuloma muladvaranikaya gana; Anauk-chaung dvara gana; Veluvanna nikaya gana; Catubhummika mahasatipatthana ngettwin gana; Ganavimutti gadoh gana; and Dhamma- maharin gana.

Description: The information below, currently found on the website of the Myanmar Ministry of Energy, has not been updated since the Ministry of Electric Power was reconstituted as two separate ministries in May 2006. While the data has not been updated since 2001, the information is useful for historical purposes. It also includes two maps, one showing the existing power grid system in 2000, and the other showing the locations of 29 hydro-electric projects then on the drawing boards. Description: This resource covers the visuals from a power point presentation by Myanmar delegates to an ASEAN energy seminar in September 2007. Organograms, otherwise unavailable, show the responsibilities of the two Myanmar ministries of electric power since they were separated in mid-2006. Charts provide lists of existing, planned and projected power stations and sub-power stations. They are accompanied by maps showing the current and projected transmission grids.
