Online Burma Library/PDF

Dear People,

Beyond making links to Burma documents already online, the Online Burma
Library (OBL) will be putting other documents directly on the OBL site.
Right now we are looking at the various formats to use.

PDF is one possibility. What is your experience of using PDF? Do many of
you, particularly in the South, have difficulty downloading and printing
out documents in PDF? Is it easy for you to even download the (free) Adobe
software? (I have been told that on account of unstable connections, it is
sometimes difficult).

Where possible, documents will be put online with a choice of Text, RTF or
Word. Any other formats we should consider?

Some documents, however, with tables or graphics etc. require more complex
software. Please let us know your experience,
so we can avoid, so far as possible, putting up documents some people
cannot access.

(I made up this list from people in my address book who are interested in
Burma and/or in making information available to the widest possible range
of people. I will use it from time to time to put questions similar to the
above. If you want to be dropped from the list, please let me know.)

Sincerely,

The Librarian (David Arnott)
