World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) held solidarity meeting with
Burmese and Palestine people in New Delhi, India. The solidarity meeting
is being organized on December 1,an opening day of the 2nd International
Preparatory Committee Meeting of the WFDY. About 70 participants from
more than 40 countries including India, Bangladesh, Burma, USA, Russia,
Brazil, Cuba, Palestine and African countries have gathered for the
meeting. The participants are not satisfied with the Indian government?s
position regarding Burma and Palestine because, they said India is
traditionally always at the fore-front of supporting the cause for
democratic rights. Mr. D. Raja, leader of the Communist Party of India
(CPI) and Ms.Nirmala Desh Pande, well known Gandhian and Chairperson of
the Asian People Association were among those who spoke at the meeting.
?Burma is the country which occupied and unique place in the world when
the United Nations became very active, it was the time for the entire
South and South East Asia when U Thant of Burma became the Secretary
General of the UN for 2 terms. Now the same Burma, which was presiding
over the deliberations of the UN is under the military junta. That is
the irony of Burma.? Said D.Raja. He also amazed for the silence and
closed eyes of the international community while Aung San Suu Kyi, Noble
Peace Prize winner , who get popular support of her people is under
house arrest . ? The issue of Burma is not only the internal matter, it
is the question of democracy. So this is high time the issue of Burma
should be focused in the international forum and issue of Burma should
be given priority and attention? he continued. U Mya Win , an elected
Member of Parliament from the NLD party also spoke on the occasion and
called for international solidarity and every moral assistance for the
Burmese democratic struggle. ?The recognition by India and China of the
repressive Burmese military regime is very unfortunate and it also
demoralize the liberation struggles of the all third world countries?
said U Mya Win. The members of the All Burma Students League contributed
the song ?Student?s Union? at the meeting and the participants ended the
solidarity meeting by raising slogan ? the people united shall always be
victorious?.
