GOC inspects Indo-Myanmar border

MOREH (Manipur), Oct. 12. ? GOC 57 mountain division, Major General
Iqbal Singh inspected the Indo-Myanmar border here to review security to
prevent infiltration of insurgents and border crimes, defence sources
said today.

Sources said Maj Gen Singh accompanied by Brig Mukesh Sabharwal,
commander of 9 sector, yesterday visited the border gates and other
points through which insurgents infiltrated into the region.

The senior Army officer also reviewed the security measures taken up by
the Assam Rifles and other central para military forces including the
BSF to prevent armed insurgents and other criminals from crossing the
borders.

Later talking to reporters, Col HS Pathania, commandant of the Seventh
Assam Rifles, said the GOC was ?satisfied? with the security measures
taken up to prevent border crimes and insurgent activities. He said
beefed up security had greatly reduced crimes like extortion, smuggling,
lootings and drug trafficking.
