The Mizoram State police had nabbed two members of Chin rebel army
inside Indian territory in Indo-Burma border on 9 October. Mr. Thang
Hlei (20) and Mr. Hreng Hu (19), belonging to Chin National Front (CNF)
were arrested at a border area, about 3-km far from Tlang Sam village in
Champhai District of Mizoram State. Local police sources said that one
AK 47 rifles, one SKS Chinese rifle and 54 rounds of ammunition were
seized from them.

The two CNF soldiers are currently held in Champhai police station and
likely to be charged with both Foreigners? Act Section 14 for illegal
entry and illegal holding of weapons. Though Mizzima News Group got hold
of Mizoram Home Minister Mr. Tawn Luia at his residence in Aizawl today,
he was apparently not willing to speak his comment on the arrest of two
Chin rebels.

Chin National Front has been fighting against the Burmese military
government since 1988, being based in the triangular border areas of
Burma, Bangladesh and India. As the relationship between India and
Burmese junta has been cordial in recent years, the Chin rebels have
become a target for crackdown by both security forces in the Indo-Burma
border areas. Their base camps inside Mizoram State are often attacked
by the Indian armed forces.

There is no official statement issued by CNF regarding the arrest.
