Thai military accuses Rangoon of aiding drug trade

Mae Sot, Thailand: Burma's Government is helping heroin
and amphetamine producers expand their scope of influence,
Thai military sources said yesterday.

Rangoon is helping the United Wa State Army and Democratic
Karen Buddhist Army - two ethnic minority militias deeply involved
in the heroin and amphetamine trade - to expand their operations
along the Thai-Burmese border, Fourth Infantry civilian affairs chief
Prasan Saengsirirath said.

Meanwhile, Burma's military accused its pro-democracy opponents
of committing criminal acts and ruining the economy, and warned that
their end was "not far".
