Former Prime Minister of Norway Mr. Kjell Magne Bondevik has urged
Norway's foreign minister to raise the issue of present situation in
Burma with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and ask the UN to
investigate the present condition of Aung San Suu Kyi.

In his letter sent yesterday to foreign minister Mr. Torbjorn Jagland,
the former Prime Minister expressed his concern for the situation of
Aung San Suu Kyi and her NLD party members who have been incommunicado
since last Saturday after they were forcibly returned to Rangoon from a
roadside stand-off.

He further urged Norwegian government to raise with UN Secretary General
during the current UN Millennium Summit on how the world body can work
to achieve a tripartite dialogue between Aung San Suu Kyi, the ethnic
nationalities and the military junta to restore democracy in Burma.
