Pressure from the world community continues to mount on the Burmese
junta, as there is no sign of removing the roadside blockade imposed on
Aung San Suu Kyi and her entourage. An international network of
parliamentarians and political leaders has today called for the
governments of the international community to condemn the military
authorities in Burma for detaining Aung San Suu Kyi.

In its press statement issued today, the International Network of
Political Leaders Promoting Democracy in Burma, known as "PD Burma",
said that the military junta is by their act, preventing Aung San Suu
Kyi and her party members from fulfilling their rights to move around
freely in Burma.

It has called for Members of Parliament and political leaders around the
world to lend their support to Aung San Suu Kyi and has particularly
asked the United Nations Special Envoy to Burma Mr. Razali Ismail to
find a solution on the present crisis in close co-operation with both
Aung San Suu Kyi and the junta.

The PD Burma was established in 1996 by the former Prime Minister of
Norway Mr. Kjell Magne Bondevik and consists of 26 political leaders
around the world including of South Korea, Malaysia, India, Australia,
Japan, Sweden and France.

The Nobel Laureate and Burma's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and
a group of her supporters have been stranded at a roadside near Dallah
town since August 24 when they attempted to travel to Kungyangon, 50
kilometer south of Rangoon, for party organization work.
