Mizoram police launched an operation against foreigners

Mizoram police launched an operation against foreigners and illegal
workers in the state.

About 40 foreigners non-Mizo were arrested by the police on July 28 in
Aizawl, capital of Mizoram State. Majority of them are from Burma and
exiled member of parliament from the NLD party and two members from the
All Burma students' Democratic Front (ABSDF) were also arrested along
with other Burmese handloom workers.

"We are trying for their release by contacting government officials and
I hope they will be released soon." Said Soe Min from ABSDF.

Due to pressure from the powerful NGOs Young Mizo Association (YMA) and
CYNOD Christian Association, Mizoram police launched an operation
against foreigners and non-Mizo from other State of India.

According to the local people, the operation was launched against
foreigners because of recent increase of crime rate in the state.

Mizoram State, one of the Northeastern states of India shares border
with Chin State in Burma and host thousands of Burmese nationals
including a few Burmese democracy activists.
