Myanmar's toll hits border trade

IMPHAL, JULY 22. The tiny town of Moreh, bordering Myanmar, which was
bustling with trading activity till a year ago, now wears a deserted
look as export of Indian goods to Myanmar under the Free Trade Agreement
has almost come to a standstill.

Small traders who were operating in Moreh areas, particularly those
selling textile goods, stainless steel utensils and hosiery products, do
not find a market in Namphalong and Tamu in Myanmar anymore since the
authorities of that country have imposed a toll of Rs. 10 per headload
packet of Indian items despatched to their markets. - UNI
