Korean Acacias to Help Myanmar Turn Green=20
Acacia seeds, which contributed to reviving Korea's barren land, will be =
sent to Myanmar in mid-January it was reported Thursday. The Forestry =
Administration announced it is ready to provide Myanmar with 34 =
kilograms of Acacia seeds collected from the Pohang area. This event =
follows the establishment of bilateral forestry cooperation between =
Korea and Myanmar in July last year and after Korea promised to help =
make Myanmar lush again.=20
Myanmar is located in the tropical monsoon area and is 3.5 times larger =
than the Korean peninsula. Its forestry resources are abundant but the =
Bagan area in the middle of the country has turned barren due to =
excessive tree cutting. The trees have been use as firewood for many =
centuries to bake bricks to build Buddhist pagodas.=20
