JAPANESE INETERESTS IN BURMA
1/7/00
>From the Editor's Desk
Japan has long refused to punish Burma persistently while the international
community has taken actions against the SPDC by means of sanctions and
restrictions. No wonder SPDC always yearns for the Japanese aid. Burma,
despite sanctions imposed by the international community and abuse by the
state, is still rich in natural resources. Japan on the other hand scarcely
has any resources. Japan does dream about being a super power at least in the
Asia Pacific. Japan has a will and serious intentions to be able to influence
Asia.
For these reasons Japan receives the military authorities from Burma. Due to
international criticism and protests from the dissident groups, the Japanese
government procrastinates to give further aid to Burma. On the whole Japan is
interested in the natural resources of Burma. It's interests are purely to
benefit Japan itself.
