Temperatures plummet=20

THAILAND and Myanmar shivered through an unusual cold snap yesterday =
after a powerful weather system swept down from China. In usually =
sweltering Thailand, the mercury dipped below zero in several places. =
Temperatures hit a 25-year low in northern and central districts, =
weather bureau officials said. The bureau said the temperature plunged =
to a chilly -2.2 Celsius yesterday at Chiang Mai's Intanon peak, 800 =
kilometres north of Bangkok _ the coldest day since 1974. ``The =
temperature should not go down more, we expect the cold wave to reach =
its lowest points today,'' he said. It was also chilly in Bangkok where =
street vendors did a roaring trade in sweaters. Official weather reports =
said the mercury plunged to about 3 degrees Celsius early yesterday in =
the capital Yangon, better known for its usually hot and humid climate.=20
