Subject: A ceremony to set up a trust fund for poor and needy patients receiving medical treatment at Yangon East Hospital

YANGON, 11 Dec - A ceremony to set up a trust fund for poor and needy 
patients receiving medical treatment at Yangon East Hospital was held in the 
meeting hall of the hospital in Botahtaung Township this afternoon.

Chairman of the National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and 
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt handed over K 1 million donated by the 
National Health Committee and accepted donations of well-wishers.

Also present on the occasion were ministers, the vice-mayor, officials of the 
State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads, 
directors-general and officials of departments under the Ministry of Health, 
medical superintendents and well-wishers.

In his speech, Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein said in accord with the guidance of 
the chairman of the National Health Committee, out of 327 hospitals in states 
and divisions, there are trust funds amounting to K 90.5 million in 56 
hospitals. 

With the use of trust funds, medicine will be provided for poor and needy 
patients who are receiving treatment at hospitals.

In the health sector, cost-sharing health system has been used for the 
patients who can afford.

In giving treatment to poor and needy patients, the trust funds will be used 
to buy expensive and efficacious medicines for them. 
Altogether 38 well-wishers set up a trust fund amounting to over K 7.7 
million for poor and needy patients: who are receiving medical treatment at 
Yangon East Hospital.

Then, the Secretary-1 handed over K 1 million donated by the National Health 
Committee to Minister.

The Secretary-l, ministers and the vice-mayor accepted the donations and 
presented certificates of honour.

On behalf of the well-wishers, U Kyee Myint of Soe Soe Fong Company Ltd 
explained the purpose of donations.

Medical Superintendent of Yangon East Hospital Dr Kyi Thein thanked the 
well-wishers.
