Ten foreign illegals and three men nabbed for immigration offences
Immigration officers at Woodlands arrested 13 foreigners on Thursday =
night of whom 10 were immigration offenders, while the rest were caught =
for abetting the crime.=20
In the first case, a Malaysian driver was arrested at the Departure =
Section around 9pm when four Thai men were found crammed in the boot of =
the car.=20

Investigations revealed the driver had picked up the men from Bukit =
Panjang and was promised 80 ringgit for each person smuggled out of =
Singapore.=20

About an hour later, another Malaysian was arrested at the Checkpoint =
for his part in ferrying the four Thai men from Geylang to Bukit =
Panjang. He was believed to have collected some $1,060 from an unknown =
Thai national.=20

Meanwhile, at Woodlands Town Centre, immigration officers arrested six =
Myanmar nationals in a Malaysian-registered car. The Malaysian driver =
was arrested for abetment.=20

It is believed he was paid $30 per trip for transporting immigration =
offenders within Singapore.=20

All 13 will be charged in court.=20

The Singapore Immigration and Registration says it takes a serious view =
of illegal entry and departure from Singapore and has stepped up checks =
on passengers and vehicles at all checkpoints.=20
