(1)  National Convention Convening Commission Meets
        
     National Convention Convening Commission (NCCC)
held its meeting at NCCC Office on 1 December.
National Convention Convening Work Committee and
National Convention Convening Management Committee
presented matters pertaining to the National
Convention. Members of the commission took part in the
discussion. 

(2)  World AIDS Day Observed in Yangon
        
     World AIDS Day was observed at the International
Business Centre on 1 December. Myanmar has launched
the anti-AIDS programme as national task since ten
years ago. The State Peace and Development Council
formed the Central Committee  with the leadership of
the National Health Committee and participation of
high-level officials of various ministries and members
of internal welfare associations. In realizing the
directions given by the Central Committee, the
respective departments under the Ministry of Health
are collectively implementing the anti-AIDS 
programmes; and  AIDS control measures have been
intensified not only in border areas but also in all
the States and Divisions. Myanmar is able to take
necessary control measures as projected as the country
has known the situation on the infection of the
disease, resulting from  the constant studies and
reports. Thus,  the nation  is able to control the
dreadful disease to a certain extent. The main aim of
the nation's AIDS control project is to disseminate
the knowledge on the infection of HIV and AIDS among
the people to enable  them to enjoy a healthy life.
The officials and guests visited the World Aids Day
Exhibition. World AIDS Day discussions were held.
Resource persons presented papers.

(3)  Thailand Exhibition '99 Opens

     Under the programme for promotion of bilateral
economic cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand,
Thailand Exhibition '99  was opened at the Tatmadaw
Convention Hall on 1 December. This exhibition is
organized by the Department of Export Promotion of the
Ministry of Commerce  of Thailand  in collaboration
with the Board of Trade, Thai Chamber of Commerce and
the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon.  This is also the
second Thai products exhibition in Myanmar. Myanmar
has hosted in the past few years quite a number of
trade fairs, single country trade exhibitions and
specialised exhibitions on construction materials
packaging and small scale machineries from India,
Bangladesh, Malaysia, People's Republic of China and
Singapore. Myanmar has also participated in the
international trade fairs occasionally and organized
Myanmar's Trade Fair in Yangon inviting exhibitors
from abroad.  Thailand is the third largest investor
in Myanmar next to Singapore and the United Kingdom.
More than 100 Thai companies are participating in this
exhibition, displaying quite a wide range of products
including construction materials, textiles, chemicals,
electrical products, furniture & household products,
cosmetics, food items amongst others.The objective of
the exhibitions is to  present a cross-section outlook
of Thai products and services, that are being
recognized and accepted internationally, to the
individuals and potential businessmen from the Union
of Myanmar. 

(4)  Diplomats Visit Schools
        
     Ambassadors and counsellors of ASEAN member
countries, the People's Republic of China and Japan
visited basic education high schools, basic education
primary schools and Practising School of Institute of
Education in the city on 1 December. They  observed 
multimedia classrooms at  the schools.  The study
group led by Dean of Diplomatic Corp Ambassador of Lao
People's Democratic Republic  together with Deputy
Minister for Education  and officials of Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, arrived at Dagon Township BEHS No 1
and observed function of the school's multimedia
classroom. They also visited the same classrooms at
Lanmadaw Township BEHS No 1,  Dagon Township BEPS No
5, Sangyoung Township BEHS No 2 and Practising School
of Institute of Education in Kamayut Township.
