1125-01 ASEAN Summit On, Myanmar Joins
**Myanmar's Head-of-State will attend the ASEAN informal summit to be held
in Manila, Philippines on 28th of this month.

In conjunction with the summit the 10 ASEAN head-of-states will also meet
with the high-ranking government officials from China, Japan and Korea.

1125-02 New Tea & Coffee Growing Area
**Myanmar agricultural experts are exploring new areas for growing coffee
and tea on commercial basis.

Coffee growers and Myanma Farm Enterprise are joined together in efforts to
grow coffee in Myanmar's ruby rich town of Mogok, about 680-km northeast of
Yangon. The area has grown coffee on substantial numbers of acres of land
this year. The region's dry coffee production per acre stands around 6
tons, which can give an ROI of around Kyats 200,000 (US$ 625).

The area also has potentials for growing tea, and canola oil seed, a newly
imported oil seed species from Australia.

In Myanmar, wide spread coffee growing on commercial basis can be seen in
Myanmar's northwestern towns of Pyin-Oo-Lwin (formerly Maymyo) and Nyungcho.

1125-03 Myanmar Attends Accountant Council Meet
**Myanmar's Auditor General left for Davao City, Philippines on 21st
November to attend the 11th ASEAN Accountant Council meeting to be held
there from 23rd to 27th of this month.

Myanmar hosted the 65th ASEAN Accountant Federation (AFA) meeting in Yangon
last September.

1125-04 Thai Company To Invest US$ 40M In Myanmar
**A Thai company is to invest US$40 million in developing an entertainment
resort on a tiny island off Myanmar's southern most town of Kawthaung.

The resort is expected to be operational by May 2001,which will includes a
modern hotel, a Thai traditional boxing hall and a small airport for
amateur planes amongst other entertainment facilities.

1125-05 Computer Asso. Members To Canberra
**A 10-member Myanmar Computer Association delegation left for Canberra,
Australia on 20th November to attend the computer conference and exhibition
to be held there from the 21st to 23rd of this month.

The conference and exhibition is arranged by Asia-Oceania Computing
Industry Organization (ASOCIO), which aims for the regional cooperation in
developing computer industries.

1125-06 Ministry News
**Every Thursday, Myabuzz features Ministry News.  This will tackle issues
in the preceding week (with emphasis on business and investment news) in
the various ministries in the country.

1. Two-week training course started in Yangon last week on cement
production   conducted by the Myanmar's Light Industries Ministry under the
Japan's ASIAN Technical Scholarship Programme.  20 Ministry staffs will be
trained on cement production.

2. Myanmar's Ministry of Health holds a workshop on radiation protection in
radiotherapy under the sponsorship of International Automatic Energy Agency
(IAEA) last week.

3. Myanmar Cooperative Ministry organized the Cottage Industries Exhibition
'99 in Yangon last week. Five Myanmar cooperative societies and 31 business
institutions put on display the range of industrial goods produced by
Myanmar Cottage Industries in the exhibition. Myanmar's cottage industries
are producing industrial and household goods as well as foodstuff and
cosmetics.

4. Myanmar's Energy Ministry is planning to supply the natural gas
produced from Aphyauk and Nyaungdon gas fields in southwestern Ayeyarwady
province for Yangon's Power Plants. The newly found Nyaungdon gas field
alone is capable of producing 4.8 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
