YANGON, 24 Nov -  Secretary-l  of the State  Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received
Ambassador  of  Japan  Mr  Kazuo  Asakai  at Dagon
Yeiktha  of the  Ministry  of  Defence  at 4.30 pm
today.


Also present on the occasion were  Minister at the
State  Peace and  Development  Council  Chairman's
Office,  Minister  for  Foreign   Affairs,  Deputy
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Director  General
of  Protocol Department.

(2)   Secretary-1  inspects  construction  of  
      museum to mark drug abuse control


YANGON, 24 Nov-Secretary-l  of the State Peace and
Development  Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  inspected
construction  of the  museum  to mark  drug  abuse
control at the corner of  Hanthawady  and  Kyundaw
Streets in Kamayut Township here this morning.


Accompanied  by  officials  of the State Peace and
Development   Council   Office,  the   Secretary-1
arrived at the construction site at 9.15 am.


Minister of Home  Affair and  officials  concerned
reported to the Secretary-1 on progress of work in
construction    of   a   meeting   hall   and   an
administrative  building of the museum,  power and
water supply, greening of the museum,  planting of
flowers and trees and arrangements for display and
inner  decoration of the museum.  The  Secretary-l
gave   instructions,   and  he  left  there  after
inspecting  construction  works.

(4)   Htani  sluice  Gate  commissioned   into
      service in Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Division



YANGON,   24  Nov  -   Htani   Sluice   Gate   was
commissioned  into service  near Htani  village in
Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Division, this morning,
with an address of Secretary-2  of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.


Included  in the  Nyaungdonkyun  Land  Reclamation
Programme   of  the  Lower   Myanmar   Reclamation
Project, the sluice gate, which is on Htani Creek,
will prevent areas in Htani, Ahlwe and Kyontakwin,
which are  located  along the  Htani  Creek in the
south of Nyaungdonkyun, from flooding in the rainy
season.  It will also  rapidly  reduce  the  water
level of inundated  areas  during the late monsoon
and will help ease the  irrigation  to benefit the
areas connecting the Htani Creek banks.


Comprising 15 six-foot by  eight-foot  valves, the
sluice     gate    is     attached     with     an
inflow-plus-outflow  canal,  which  is  6,800-foot
long, 80-foot wide and has an average  depth of 14
feet.  Built at a cost of over K 134  million,  it
will benefit over 15,000 acres.


The minister and officials presented commemorative
gifts   to   the   Secretary-2   and   party.  The
Secretary-2  and party  cordially  met with  local
people  who attended  the ceremony.

(4)   Secretary-2  inspects Agri Camp, Panhlaing  
      sluice gate
      

YANGON, 24 Nov -  Secretary-2  of the State  Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected No
3  Bawathit  Agriculture  Production  Camp  of the
Ministry of Home Affairs and Panhlaing sluice gate
in Nyaungdon Township this morning.


The Secretary-2  together with member of the State
Peace  and   Development   Council   Chairman   of
Ayeyawady  Division Peace and Development  Council
Commander   of  South   -West   Command   and  the
ministers,  the  deputy  ministers  and  officials
inspected  No 3  Bawathit  Agriculture  Production
Camp in Nyaungdon Township at 11 am.


Commander  reported on  agriculture  in  Nyaungdon
Township  and  progress  of  Bawathit  Camp.  Camp
in-charge  explained  harvesting of monsoon paddy,
preparations  for  cultivation of summer paddy and
various  crops and  breeding  of various  kinds of
fish.The   Secretary-2   gave   instructions   and
inspected plantations and agricultural  equipment.
The Secretary-2 and party then inspected Panhlaing
sluice  gate.

(5)   Tenth  anniversary  of UN  Agreement  on 
      the Child Rights observed


YANGON, 24 Nov - The tenth  anniversary  of the UN
Agreement on the Child Rights jointly sponsored by
National  Committee  on the  Child  Rights  of the
Minister   of   social    Welfare,    Relief   and
Resettlement    and   UNICEF   was   observed   at
International Business Centre this morning.


Chairman of National Committee an the Child Rights
Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa made a speech.


UNICEF  Resident  Representative  Dr Juan  Aguilar
Leon    extended    greetings.Children    of   No1
Pre-Primary   School  in  Bahan   Township,  No  2
Pre-Primary  School  in  Dagon  Township  and No 4
Pre-Primary  School in Ahlon Township  entertained
the  guests  with   dances.  The   ministers   and
officials    observed   showroom   on   children's
activities to mark the tenth anniversary of the UN
Agreement on Rights of the Child.

      Asia-Pacific Bulk Terminal (Holdings)


YANGON,  24  Nov  -  Deputy  Prime   Minister  and
Chairman   of   Myanmar   Investment    Commission
Vice-Admiral   Maung   Maung  Khin  met   Managing
Director of Asia-Pacific Bulk Terminal  (Holdings)
Pte Ltd of Singapore Mr Stewart Soon and party who
called   at  his   office   at  10.30  am   today.

(7)   Myanmar delegation leaves for Philippines


YANGON,  24  Nov  -  Myanmar   delegation  led  by
Minister  for  Finance  and  Revenue U Khin  Maung
Thein left here by air this  morning to attend the
Special  Meetings  of ASEAN to be held in  Manila,
the Philippines.


The   delegation    was   seen   off   at   Yangon
International  Airport by  Minister  for  National
Planning and Economic Development, Minister at the
Prime  Minister'  s Office,  Deputy  Minister  for
Finance and Revenue,  Charge  d'Affaires ai of the
Embassy  of the  Philippines  Ms  Belinda  M Ante,
heads of department  and officials of the Ministry
of  Finance  and  Revenue  and  their   relatives.
Minister U Khin  Maung  Thein was  accompanied  by
Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar.

YANGON, 24 Nov - Minister  for Health  Maj-Gen Ket
Sein received Overseas Postgraduates Director, RCP
(Edin)  Dr  Roland  A  Clark,  Dean of RCP  (Edin)
Professor  Neil Douglas,  member of  International
Medicine     Committee    Dr    David     Mathews,
Representative of RCPCH Consultant Pediatrician Dr
RCP Barclay from Royal College of United  Kingdom.
at his office at 2 pm today.


They discussed  post graduate  course and academic
matters on medicine.Also  present at the call were
Deputy   Minister   for   Health  Dr  Mya  Oo  and
officials.

(9)   Deputy  Minister  receives  Nepalese   
      journalists delegation


YANGON,  24  Nov-On  behalf  of the  Minister  for
Information,  Deputy Minister  Brig-Gen Aung Thein
received Chairman of Nepal Journalists Association
Mr Manju Ratna Sakya and  delegation at the office
of  the  Ministry  on Bo  Aung  Kyaw  Street  this
afternoon. 


 They  discussed   matters  relating  to  literary
 affairs and  periodicals.  Afterwards, the guests
 visited the National Museum.
 

 In the morning,.they visited the Shwedagon Pagoda
and  the  People's   Park  and  People's   Square.

(10)  Minister meets ROK Ambassador


YANGON, 24  Nov-Minister  for Labour  Maj-Gen  Tin
Ngwe met  Ambassador of Republic of Korea Mr Chung
Jung-gum at his office this afternoon.Also present
at  the  call  were  Deputy  Minister  for  Labour
Brig-Gen  Win Sein and  heads  of  department.They
discussed  bilateral  cooperation  between the two
countries.

(11)   Service  agreement  between MPT and I.I (NV.S) 
       Ltd signed  for  International  Transit  Traffic  
       from Philippines to India


YANGON,  24  Nov -  Signing  ceremony  of  service
agreement     between     Myanmar     Posts    and
Telecommunications and I.I (W.S) Ltd of West Samoa
for International Transit Traffic from Philippines
to India was held at foreign  communications  camp
of MPT in Mayangon Township this morning.


Present  on  the  occasion   were   Minister   for
Communications,  Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win
Tin,   Managing   Director   of  MPT,   heads   of
departments,  chief  engineers,  Chairman  of  I.I
(W.S) Ltd Mr Narula and guests.


They then signed the contract and exchanged it.


The minister and officials of MPT  inspected  VSAT
satellite ground station for  Myanmar-Thai  direct
communication  new 30 channels under the agreement
of MPT  and  Telephone  Organization  of  Thailand
(TOT), Shinnawatra Satellite Public Co Ltd.

(12)  Ephedrine powder seized in Kunlong


YANGON, 24 Nov-A combined team comprising  members
of regional  intelligence  unit and Myanmar Police
Force, while making a search at Nanhu  Hpaungseik,
Kunlong   Township,  Shan  State  (North),  on  15
November,  stopped  and  searched  a red Hilux car
without  number plate  driven by Ah Kywin, 18, son
of U Kyin and a passenger Kawkyin, 19, son of U Lu
Se of Laukkai Township.

The authorities  seized 52.224 kilos of ephedrine,
one  pistol,  one  magazine   and  six  rounds  of
ammunition.  Kunlong  Township  Police  Station is
taking action  against them  according to Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(13)  651 members resign from Ngaputaw Township NLD


YANGON, 24 Nov-A  ceremony  to present  letters of
resignation  of 651 members of  Ngaputaw  Township
National League for Democracy, Ayeyawady Division,
was held at Thingangone Village in the township at
12.30 pm on 26 July1999.


Six  hundred  and  fifty-one  members of  Ngaputaw
Township  NLD,  Ayeyawady  Division,  of their own
volition,resigned    by    sending    letters   of
resignation to the party concerned on 26 July 1999
as they no longer wished to  participate  in party
politics of NLD.


Member  of  Ngaputaw   Township  NLD  U  Tin  Tun,
onbehalf of the party members, explained about the
resignation  from the party  and  handed  over the
letters  of  resignation  to  member  of  Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission U
Than  Myint.
