(1) Senior General Than Shwe Inspects Construction and Agricultural 
Activities in Ayeyawady Division

    Senior General Than Shwe inspected construction and
agricultural activities in Ayeyawady Division after
attending  the inauguration of Bo Myat Tun Bridge
across Ayeyawady River on 15 November. The Senior
General inspected construction of Pantanaw Bridge. The
two-lane bridge is 420 feet long and it can bear
60-ton loads. On completion of Pantanaw Bridge across
Pantanaw River, travelling from Pantanaw to Yangon and
Pathein will be better. The Senior General and party
inspected Pantanaw-Wakema Road and Pantanaw-Einme
Road. The Senior General and party went to the wetland
reclamation site of First Top Co Ltd and Olympic Co
Ltd in Mogok Deedoke (North). Altogether 5,487 acres
were permitted to be reclaimed by two companies.
Monsoon and summer paddy and summer sesamum were
cultivated on the land. In the afternoon, the Senior
General and party inspected Pantanaw-Einme Road and
Einme. The Senior General then went to Myimkaseik
Village, Kangyidaunt Township where he inspected the
site for building a bridge across Panmawady River to
link Kangyidaunt and Myaungmya townships. The Senior
General and party then inspected the site chosen for
building a new bridge across Darka River to replace
Darka Bridge on Darka-Einme Road. At 5 pm, the Senior
General and party went to Nyaungdon (South) Natural
Gas Field in Nyaungdon Township. Minister reported on
the natural gas field, production of the gas, future
tasks, condition of Aphyauk Natural Gas Field linked
with Nyaungdon (South) Natural Gas Field, and
supplying the power station in Yangon with natural gas
from Nyaungdon (South) Natural Gas Field. Afterwards,
the Senior General left there for Yangon.

(2) Multimedia Teaching Centres in Basic Education School Opened

    Donation ceremony for construction of new building
for No 5 Basic Education Primary School was held at
the school in Dagon Township on 16 November.
Multimedia Teaching Centres were opened in over 200
schools including three primary schools with the
participation of the government, parents and the
school board of trustees within two years according to
the education promotion programmes. A ceremony to open
Multimedia Teaching Centre was held at No 4 Basic
Education High School in Botahtaung Township on 16
November. In the afternoon, the ceremony to open the
multi-media teaching centre of San-gyoung Township
Basic Education High School No 1 was held at the
school. The same ceremony of Mayangon Township Basic
Education High School No 5 was held at the school.
With the cooperation of members of the School Boards
of Trustees and well-wishers, efforts are being made
to open multimedia classrooms from basic education
high schools so that students can learn world-class
subjects with the use of modern teaching aids. 

(3) Telemedicine Seminar Held at Medical Science Department

    The Telemedicine Seminar of Medical Science
Department was held at the meeting hall of the
department. Deputy Minister for Health and Deputy
General Secretary of BHN Association Mr. Katsumi Moro
of Japan gave speeches. Then, Head of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology Dr. Takahiko Kubo of Department of
National Ohkura Hospital on Telemedicine of Japan
explained use of telemedicine and health care.

(4) Cottage Industries Exhibition 99 Opened

    Cottage Industries Exhibition 99 was opened in front
of Cottage Industries Department in Yangon on 16
November. The exhibition was held with the aims of
informing the people of conditions of cooperative
industries, enabling industries to unite, developing
industrial production technology and disseminating
knowledge about industries, economic affairs and
management. Myanmar Industrial Development Committee
was formed with 14 members. For the development of the
industrial sector, the Government and entrepreneurs
are undertaking large and medium-size industries and
Cottage Industries Department is supervising
small-size industries. Luthit Barbed Wire Factory from
Mayangon Township is producing and distributing barbed
wire and wire mesh of high quality; two barbed wire
machines have been exported to Indonesia; and order
for another 10 machines has been received. Then, a
paper reading session to mark the opening of the
exhibition was held. Resource persons submitted three
papers at the session.

(5) Myanmar Delegation Leaves for Laos

    At the invitation of Deputy Minister of Economic and
Tourism Services and Chairman of Lao National Tourism
Authorities of Lao People's Democratic Republic,
Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism and Director of
Directorate of Hotels and Tourism left Yangon by air
on 16 November for Laos to attend a ceremony to mark
1999-2000 Visit Laos Year to be held from 18 to 23
November in Vientiane, LPDR.

(6) Information Delegation Leaves for LPDR

    At the invitation of the Ministry of Culture and
Information of Lao People's Democratic Republic, a
Myanmar information delegation led by Chief Editor of
the Myanma Alin Daily left Yangn by air on 16
November.

(7) Two Microscopes for Leprosy Eradication Project Department

    The Netherlands Leprosy Relief of Amsterdam of the
Netherlands donated two microscopes for the leprosy
eradication project department of Health Department of
the Union of Myanmar.
