Here you are folks -- the wonderful world of facts and figures and Myanmar
rice exports!  

Don't hold your breath, but exports of rice are expected to rise to
3,000,000 metric tons by 2001 according to the 5 year plan devised in 1996.

WASHINGTON, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Following is the U.S. Agriculture
Department's global rice situation outlook published by the Foreign
Agricultural Service on Friday.

Burma down 125,000 tons to 75,000 due to smaller-than-expected exports
caused by domestic rice price policy.

YANGON, Oct 27 (Reuters) - A senior member of Myanmar's military government
has said the country's rice supplies are plentiful and the government is
selling off surplus stocks to stabilise soaring prices.

According to official statistics, Myanmar exported 123,000 tonnes of rice
in the fiscal year to the end of March, against 28,000 in 1997/98, 93,100
in 1996/97 and 354,000 in 1995/96.

Xinhua 12 October 1999:   Myanmar exported a total of 38,700 tons of rice
in the first half of this year, an increase of 110.32 percent over a year
ago, according to the latest figures of the country's central statistical
organization. In 1998, Myanmar exported 111,700 tons of rice, a
572.89-percent increase over 1997

Myanmar exported a total of 270,000 tons of rice during the past year. This
year as Myanmar's crop harvest is more promising than last year, the rice
export figure will increase by 30,000 tons.

SINGAPORE, Apr 22, 1996 (AP-Dow Jones) -- Through extensive irrigation 
projects that will cost the Burmese government 44 billion kyats,  or
approximately $7.33 billion, Burma is aiming to treble its rice  exports to
three million metric tons, an official with Burma's 
Ministry of Agriculture told Dow Jones News Services Monday.
