(1)   Secretary-1 attended the ceremony to open the Special  Refresher 
       Course  No 4 for Basic Education Teachers

YANGON, 9 Nov - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by ministers, the chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, deputy ministers, Chief of Staff (Air), officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department and officials, left here for Mandalay in the morning by Tatmadaw aircraft.

On arrival at Mandalay at 9.30am, the Secretary-l and party were welcomed bu military and civilian officials, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association and officials.

Accompanied by the commanders and officials, the Secretary- I and party went to Pyin-Oo-Lwin. They attended the ceremony to open the Specia1 Refresher Course No 4 for Basic Education Teachers which was held at Yadana Hall of the Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division.

Also present on the occasion were local authorities, departmental personnel, Rector of C-ICS (Upper Myanmar) Col Aung Hsan Win, pro-rectors, heads of departments, course instructors and trainee teachers.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said soon, the time will usher in the new millennium passing the present millennium as well as the 21st Century as the 20th Century will end in the near future. Only in the final decade of the present century, the entire people are able to strive to win back the national amity and unity together with the development of the motherland, after passing the,periods under subjugation, manipulation and exploitation and of disputes and quarrels resulting from the evil legacy of colonialists' subjugation.

Exerting efforts to the full capacity in harmony and unison to recover the losses of the past which had passed fruitlessly and to maintain the dignity of the independent and sovereign nation in a deserving manner is the national duty of the entire people of Myanmar in the endeavours for progress of the nation in peace and stability with high momentum. 

Based on her own strength, Myanmar will continue to strive to maintain her cordial relations and cooperation with all family nations of the world and to build a peaceful, stable, modern and developed nation whose economy will be strong enough to ensure security in the region.

For perpetuation of the national independence and sovereignty and for the nation to get abreast with world nations in progress, efforts are required to uplift the intellectual ability and constructive qualities of student youths and to ward off the danger of destructive elements to push the student youths to the wrong path.

The Secretary-l cordially met with the trainees.

The four-week course is being attended by 1,001 trainee teachers from States and Divisions.

The Secretary-1 and party also inspected construction of the 50-bed hospital in Zeebingyi, PyinOoLwin Township.

(2)   Secretary-2 views demonstration of farm machinery from Korea
		
YANGON, 9 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected the demonstration of agricultural machinery manufactured by the Republic of Korea, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Myanmar Daewoo Limited at Central Paddy Model Farm in Hmawby Township, Yangon Division, this morning.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected the agricultural machinery including paddy harvesters, winnowers, 35-HP and 50-HP tractors.
Managing Director Mr TC Shin of Myanmar Daewoo Ltd and an official explained the salient points of agricultural machinery produced in ROK.
Then officials demonstrated the performance of the agricultural machinery.
		
After attending to the needs, the Secretary-2 inspected the thriving paddy fields at the model farm.
The Korean-made farm machinery will be distributed on hire-purchase system with the cooperation of local banks. 
The company will also provide repair and maintenance services.

(3)   Minister for Industry-1 inspects Plastic and Garment Factories 
       in North Okkalapa

YANGON, 9 Nov - Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung, Deputy Ministers and officials inspected Plastic Factory No 1 in North Okkalapa Township this morning.
The minister and party inspected production of plastic bags and storage of raw materials and finished products and gave instructions.

The minister and party inspected extension of the factory and met officials.
The minister and party also inspected Garment Factory No 17 where factory manager reported on production and distribution.

The minister then gave instructions.

(4)   Minister inspects construction of toll gate on Yangon-Pathein Road

YANGON, 9 Nov - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun and officials of Public Works yesterday inspected construction of the toll gate on Yangon-Pathein Road.

Superintending Engineer and officials reported on work done.

The minister gave instructions on installation of equipment used in the toll gate.

The minister and party inspected construction of Tarkway-Kazan Road linking Maubin-Hsarmalauk Road and approach road to Bo Myat Tun Bridge (Nyaungdon).

Senior Engineer reported on progress of work.

The minister and party inspected repair of Nyaungdon-Pantanaw-Einme Road.

Ayeyawady Division Superintending Engineer reported on work done and tasks to be implemented.

The minister met service personnel of the Ministry of Construction in Ayeyawady Division this morning.

The minister inspected Pathein-Dahka-Kangalay-Kyaunggon-Nyaungdon Road, Tarkway-Kazan Road and section of Maubin-Hsarmalauk Road.

(5)   Minister meets Ambassador of Thailand

YANGON, 9 Nov - Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak who called at his office this afternoon.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister, Director General of Trade, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading, Director-General of Border Trade Department and of the ministry.

(6)   International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Council meets

YANGON, 9 Nov - International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Council held its meeting No 2/99 at the Lecture Hall No 3 of ITBMU this afternoon.


It was attended by Rector Sayadaw of ITBMU Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Silanandabhivamsa and heads of faculty led by Pro-Rector (Teaching) Sayadaw Agga Maha Gandavasaka Pandita Dr Bhaddanta Neminda, Chairman of ITBMU Council Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin and members.

Minister U Aung Khin supplicated on religious matters.


Secretary of ITBMU Council Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of reported on minutes of previous meeting and resolutions for approval.


Matters relating to transfer of members of ITBMU Council, announcement of result of Buddha Dhamma Diploma Course and others were discussed.


The rector Sayadaw gave Ovadakatha and Minister supplicated on religious matters.

(7)   Minister meets Chairman of Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association

YANGON, 9 Nov - Minister for Culture U Win Sein met Chairman of Japan - Myanmar Friendship Association of Japan Mr Kenichi Hoshina and Secretary Mr Oka who called at his office at 10 am today.

(8)   Ministers inspect Nyaungdon Test Well No 3
		
YANGON, 9 Nov - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi and Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut inspected the test production of natural gas at Test Well NO 3 in Nyaungdon region this afternoon.

At the briefing hall, Managing Director of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise reported to the ministers on the drilling of test wells in the region and works to be done.


The ministers presented gifts to workers of the Test Well NO 3 in Nyaungdon region.


The Test Well, 9,926 feet deep, produces 4.8 million cubic feet of natural gas and 80 barrels of condensate per day.

(9)   Vietnamese Peoples Army delegation arrives
	
YANGON, 9 Nov - A 10-member Vietnamese Peoples Army delegation led by Deputy Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu arrived here by air this evening.


The Vietnamese Peoples Army delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Win Myint of Ministry of Defence, Director of Military Training, senior military officers, Charge dAffaires ai of the Vietnamese Embassy Mr Nguyen Dinh Tang and Military Attache Senior Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Lu.

(10)  Delegation leaves for ROK

YANGON, 9 Nov - Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun yesterday left to attend the seminar on promotion of co-operation toward the 21st century between the Republic of Korea and CIS members.


The delegation was seen off at the airport by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development and officials.

(11)  5.696 kilos of heroin seized from three foreigners
		
YANGON, 9 Nov - Twenty-five packets of heroin weighing 5.696 kilos were seized from three foreigners at the Yangon International Airport on 5 November.

At noon on 5 November, a team comprising members of Defence Service Intelligence and members of Airport Security Unit saw three suspicious looking foreigners among the passengers, who were leaving for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-741, in the departure lounge of the airport terminal.


The authorities found that the suspects were citizens of Singapore, and they seized 13 packets of heroin weighing 2.984 kilos from Mr Peck Guan Hock, 39, (Passport S- 1447382 C), 12 packets of heroin weighing 2.712 kilos from Mr Goh Engjoo, 26, (Passport S-7303890 A) and arrested them.


The authorities also arrested Mr Chuaeng Yeow, 31, (Passport S-6833758 E), for collaboration with the traffickers in carrying the drug.

Action is being taken against the three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(12)  126 members resign from Ngaputaw Township NLD
	
YANGON, 9 Nov-A ceremony to present letters of resignation of 126 members of Ngaputaw Township National League for Democracy, Ayeyawady Division, was held at Mangyibin Thongwa Village in the township at 1 pm on 25 July 1999.


One hundred and twenty-six members of Ngaputaw Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to the party concerned on 25 July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
 

Member of Ngaputaw Township NLD U Win Shwe, on behalf of the party members, explained about the resignation from the party and handed over the letters of resignation to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission U Than Myint.
