There's a lot about the use of the mind that one does not
know. Some minds are considered sick and primitive, pre-
buddhist. Some minds are considered as something called
"human" or "advanced".
While one wonders which the Generals consider as the better
of the two. One also imagines under thes circumstances, it may
not be the Generals who know best about such subjects. But
only those who know how to use something that we all called
"the mind".
Burma Out! is a cynical b'stard of a campaign. And doesn't
beileve in anything except its mandate. And, it never ever
believes what it reads in the newspapers nor sees on TV
as 100% pure uncut truth.
Let me tell you a story. Way back in around 1989, we
published the definitive article on sports sanctions in Europe's
numero uno sports magazine. Which in truth, although going
out under my own name had some of the best editors in the
world working harder than usual to perfect its quality.
1/ The editor of Europe's number one, Golf World. Robert Green.
2/ The political companion of the assassinated Steve Biko,
founder of the Black Conciousness Movement, journalist, editor,
and chess player Donald Woods.... The eventual subject of
the movie, "Cry Freedom"..
3/ Deborah Ewing, then still "part of the family" and the first
member of the Anti-Apartheid Movement news team to visit
South Africa. Now living in Durban
And me.
This was the first time that Europe had read the "believable
side of golf in S Africa." For previously that had only been
the propaganda of such as Gary Payer, whose family still
drips with diamonds, similarly to the female side of the family
of Margaret Thatcher. A well known handbag wealder from
the Outa Conservativeshires and who took Dennis her bleary-
eyed little englander husband on a lot of golf holidays on the
Cape. .
BO does not want to get into "in-house" politics herein but
the media lesson was well learned. And still goes. For the
sheets are absolutely full of Rach today. (All that emotional
stuff, about )
"Hey Rach" we love you beyond the cause of Bingoland!".
She even held the front page of the Evening Standard yesterday.
(Monday).
Meanwhile, BO was talking about its plan for the ousting of
the worlds numero uno drug dealer to Australia, on two
popular radio shows. One in the morning, which was repeated,
and one late at night. One of which will be followed later in the
month by an interview with the UK Foreign Secretary Robin Cook.
Buit to cut a long story even longer. After the article on S Africa
was published. Those lovely people from white Bopothutswanna
called.
"Mr Bunn, you are wrong, you are wrong, you are etc etc.
"Bopothutswanna (Sun City) is a wonderful place, we are making
Real Progress" They said.
"We want you to change your mind and tell the world" They said.
"We want to fly you to Sun City for lunch!" They offered.
(I thought about that one for a moment for the snow was on the
London streets and Sun City seemed a great place to have a
what? A golf holiday? No, thanks.)
"M'dear fellow," Replied Bunn, "No thanks. " I shouldn't even be
talking to you. Let alone listening to you talking to me about
going to your fair sunny land, currently being held under a real
b'stard of an ilegal and racist regime."
"But I will drop by your London office sometime." "Goodbye."
Now Burma is vastly different from another great drug producer,
Columbia. But the Burmese may be becoming as smart as the
S Africans. For when S Africa called for sports sanctions, at Tokyo
in 64, things "developed nicely". Burma has Buddhism.
The first Noble Law of Buddhism is
"If something exists, it suffers"
(Are the Generals listening?)
But what Columbia has yet to realise is that, if you want to
genuinely get rid of the bad guys. There has to be a "sacrifice".
In Columbia's case, a more peaceful method of anti-drug
censure shoud be innitiated instead of waiting for a lethal
visit from the Green Berets and the Regiment, accompanied
by the US Drug Czar General Barry McCaffrey and 3/4 of a
billion dollars of US taxpayers money, into 40% of what soon
could become an already misbegotten land under "almost"
foreign military control.
Rach made a bit of a sacrifice huh? Two months in Insein and
no pay? Jeez, what a life. And now she is all over the papers.
It's not quite the same emotional ratio as when Diana hit the
wall. Or when comrade Mandela came home to Soweto. But,
if one can believe the UK "sheets", almost.
There are violin sections on the streets playing weepy music
to the massed ranks of the unexplored liberal. So can't someone
send her her butt back now!? It's awful, here. The tears are
jerking from Del Monte to De Beers and even the neobunkers
are getting flooded. And while Rach is happily (one may wonder)
touring Bopothutswanna, sorry my mistake, north Burma.
We are all drowning in sentiment..
