Subject: NEWS: 13th Asian Forum for Standardization of IT Begins

13th Asian Forum for Standardization of IT Begins

    The 13th Asian Forum for the Standardization of
Information Technology jointly sponsored by Agency of
Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of
Internal Trade and Industry Center of the
International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC)
of Japan, and Myanmar Computer Federation began at the
International Business Centre in Yangon on  29
October. Secretary of Myanmar Computer Science
Development Council Deputy Minister for Science and
Technology made a speech on the occasion. Mr. Akira
Yamazaki, executive director of CICC, Mr. Tomoyuki
Nakajima, assistant section chief of Standardization
Office for Information Technology and
Electrotechnology, Standards Development Division, and
Professor Dr. Shun Ishizaki of Keio University, made
speeches. At the forum, Senior Vice-President Akira
Takashima of Fujitsu Ltd presented a paper on
Standardization and Intellectual Property
Rights-Conflicts and Harmonization. It was followed by
papers on IT education and its evaluation and
standardization presented by the participants from
Myanmar, the Philippines, Japan and Thailand. In the
afternoon session, the participants from Pakistan,
Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Malaysia,
Nepal, and Lao PDR read papers on Current Status and
Issues of IT Standardization Policy in Previous Year.
(3) Cash, Gifts for Little Sisters Home for the Aged
    Military attaches of foreign missions in Myanmar
presented cash and foodstuff and medicines to Little
Sisters Home for the Aged on 29 October. Dean of
Military Attaches in Myanmar  US Lt-Col. Probyn
Thompson III, on behalf of the military attaches,
presented the cash and gifts to In-charge of the home
Mother Louisa and Father Adwen at the home. Mother
Louisa and Father Adwen spoke words of thanks.
