I once knew a buddhist priest who played rugby for Japan.
Tall guy, from the north.
Saturday
Twikenham, the village that became the home of English
rugby
Burma Out! talked to hundreds of S African and Australian
sports fanz today. In fact the tension at the Rugby World Cup
semi-finals at Twikenham was amazing, and what a game!
I mean, let me describe the scene, for this will go out over
the burma1 net... 70,000 Australian and S African rugby fanz
turned up today, 60,000 may have had tickets but the rest
just turned up.
BO explained to 1000s of people today how not only was it
involved with past sports sanctions on S Africa but also they
were about to turn their attentions to those who would sanitize
sports in Australia. And as the green, black and a non poitical
gold and yellow predominated this mass peopled scene in the
narrow streets of west London, home of Rachel Goldwyn,
presently imprisoned for 7 years hard labour in Burma for
seeing the plight of karenni refugees in Thailand and singing a
banned song in the "peace at any price" streets of Rangoon.
In the midst of these noisy crowds of internationally friendly
non Oympic sportpersons, the BO message rang clear and as
usual, easily cutting through the multi-tankards of beer.
Now the game is into extra time, but time is fast running
out for the Burmese junta team. (And sadly, the S Africa rugby
squad too.) But what a game.. A game of games huh?
BO made many new friends today, and it raised some £150,
$250, 350 guilders within an hour and a half for the BO cause.
But more importantly it will be those to whom we talked who
will carry the BO news and its literature, and sports sanction
mandate, wherever they go
(I am told that the rand wil improve with age ;-) Because yes,
people also give BO their spare rand, plenty of it.)
btw, if anyone want to know exactly which Englishman provided
the Anti Apartheid Movement with the hundreds of tickets needed
to disrupt S Africa rugby squad meeting with England at
Twilkenham, way back in history, please ask us at BO..
There had to be a losing side. But the whole shebang
starts again tomorrow. On Sunday the 2nd semi-final takes
place and guess what? BO will be there "handing out BO"
and taking in new friendships and finance.
It may even send over the odd drop kick for the Generals to
contemplate as they deal drugs and torture the innocent.
Amandla and, Be nice to the roo? One Hanson, one bullet.
